Important: The GS Center’s Summer Availability 2022

Dear GS Center community members and supporters:

During the university’s summer recess, from August 1, 2022, through September 20, 2022, the GS Center at the Waseda University Student Diversity Center will modify our service availability. 

Opening Hours: 10:00~16:00(Monday through Friday; not open on holidays)

*The university is closed from August 11, 2022, through August 21, 2022. Please also check the calendar here for any changes we might have: 早稲田大学 GSセンター (waseda.jp)

【Please read before coming to the GS Center】

Please read Waseda University’s Announcement on Covid-19 Preventative Measures before entering the campus.

In addition, the GS Center has the following requests for our community members:

  • Please sanitize your hands and ensure to wear a face mask upon entry. If you are unable to wear a mask, we have face shields available for you to wear instead. 
  • Please allow us to take your temperature upon entry to the center. 
  • Please refrain from eating in the center. 
  • Please practice physical distancing while at the center. 
  • If you have recently traveled abroad, please follow the instructions given by the Japanese government. 
  • If you are diagnosed with COVID-19 or have come into close contact with a COVID-19 infected individual, you would be requested to provide information to the local public health center and/or Waseda Univerity. If you become COVID-19 positive within the 5 days after visiting the GS Center, please email us at [email protected] and let us know. 
Available services from 2022/8/1 Through 2022/9/20

(a)Individual Counseling  (Virtual: ✅; In-Person: ✅)

You can utilize our counseling services provided by our Gender and Sexuality Specialty Staff to address issues related to and stemming from gender and sexuality. Visit here for more information about our individual counseling services.

Eligibility: 

  1. Waseda students
  2. Faculty/staff members of Waseda University (specifically to address topics related to their students); and
  3. Parents/guardians of Waseda students (specifically to address topics related to the Waseda students);
● Virtual sessions (by appointment only) 

We use Microsoft Teams for our remote counseling sessions. 

In addition to providing counseling, we accept requests for interviews and research; however, we may decline or postpone such requests due to our capacity issues, or the content of the interview topics.

*The GS Center has placed the COVID-19 preventive measures, but if you would like to meet at a larger space, please let us know in advance so that we can reserve a classroom.

(b)The Community Space Use  (Virtual: ✅; In-Person: –)

We temporarily close the in-person community space at the GS Center during the summer recess. If you would like to chat with someone about issues related to and stemming from gender and sexuality, please consider accessing our individual counseling services (available in English and Japanese) and Online Lounge (available in Japanese).

*Please note that our Online Lounge is hosted in the Japanese language

  3. Other students (i.e. middle and high school students, professional school students, etc.)

(c)The library Use (Virtual: –; In-Person: ✅)

You can borrow and return books in person at our library at the GS Center.  The period before and after the summer recess is our “Special Borrowing Period,” where each person may borrow up to 5 books from July 18 to September 21, 2022. The last day to return the books checked out during the Special Borrowing Period is October 5, 2022.

The Gender and Sexuality Center (GS Center) is a safer space and resource center for LGBTQ+ students and everyone who is interested in issues related to gender and sexuality, including allies to the LGBTQ+ community.
