Queering Waseda! Pride Weeks 2025― Reexamining the “Normal” at Waseda ―

Setting “queering” as a starting point, we create an opportunity to notice discomfort in everyday life, rethink what is considered “normal” by ourselves and by society, and turn these insights into action.

At the GS Center, we understand “queering” as the practice of questioning and reexamining the societal biases and structures that underlie notions of what is “normal” and “right,” in light of the diversity of gender and sexuality, including the presence of the LGBTQ+ community.

This event aims to provide a space where LGBTQ+ individuals, their allies, and those interested in these issues can meet, connect, and experience solidarity, introduce the GS Center to a wider campus community, and expand a network of like-minded people.

Fiction wo Real ni -BL jissha drama kara kangaeru yasashii sekai-

Description: BL (“Boys’ Love”) live-action drama shows have been quite popular lately. There are so many new shows coming out this winter, and it’s so exciting! But what are your understandings of those dramas? Do you perceive them merely as a cute romance?

Actually, BL live-action shows entail many elements that are true to the lives of LGBTQ+ people.

In this event, we will have Akiko Mizoguchi, the author of the book “BL Shinkaron: Boys’ Love ga Shakai wo Ugokasu” (Theorizing BL As a Transformative Genre: Boys’ Love Moves the World Forward), as a guest speaker and explore how someone who wants to be an ally can act, drawing upon the concept of “Shinka-kei BL” (transformative BL). This will be an opportunity to transform your knowledge base into something actionable.

If you are a drama lover or are interested in learning more about this society, you are so welcome! We look forward to having you at this event!
