The Waseda University Gender and Sexuality Center (“GS Center”) hosted the WASEDA LGBTQ+ ALLY WEEKS 2024 for two weeks, from November 25 (Monday) to December 6 (Friday).
This event was designed to provide spaces for each LGBTQ+ person affiliated with Waseda University to reconfirm their own power and abilities while also giving visibility to their allies*.
It aimed to help make our university a place of security and safety for all persons, regardless of gender or sexual preference.
The WASEDA LGBTQ+ ALLY WEEKS 2024 featured various events, including invited special guest talks, workshops, and parades across all four Waseda University campuses. These activities were planned and executed by student staff from the GS Center, with a special emphasis on how allies within the university can demonstrate their support. A report on ALLY WEEKS 2024 can be found on the GS Center Website.
*The GS Center defines an “ally” (plural: “allies”) as “any person who is aware of their own rights and privileges and who engages in and acts to encourage and promote justice and fairness for LGBTQ+ individuals and related communities, as well as those who support and/or give aid to such acts and engagements.”
