On December 6, 2024, for the second year in a row, Waseda University Polaris Inc. (a special subsidiary* of Waseda University) held its Polaris Student Exchange Public Lecture. Dr. Hanno TERAO, an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences, was the guest speaker. A total of 77 individuals participated in this online lecture, including Waseda University students and faculty.

Ms. Asako Ban, a manager at Polaris, presented an overview of the subsidiary’s activities. A video highlighting a day’s activities was also shown.

Then, Polaris staff members with disabilities presented the details of their daily work, as well as the efforts and adjustments they make to perform their duties. They also showcased their hobbies and interests, as well as their daily life activities. The attendees asked numerous questions, so much so that the scheduled time ran out. This proved to be a valuable experience for everyone, providing an opportunity to hear people speak openly about their disabilities, as well as their attitudes toward work and life. It was an excellent opportunity for all to rethink the demands and vision of an inclusive society.

※ Subsidiary established by the employer (the university) for the purpose of promoting stable employment of persons with disabilities
