Seminar on Balancing Work and Caregiving: How to Provide Care While Continuing to Work

We invited Ms. Ayako Tsugueda, a manager at Pasona Lifecare Inc., to be a guest lecturer at the abovementioned seminar, held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. The seminar was attended by 118 Waseda University faculty (including those who viewed the video after the event). Their attendance demonstrates strong interest in balancing caregiving with work.

Ms. Tsugueda shared information drawn from the numerous cases she has handled over her many years of experience in the field of caregiving. She provided multi-faceted, easily digestible information on how best to approach family care and work. Regarding the most important aspect of balancing work and caregiving, she spoke about staying in close contact with parents and relatives, getting help from those around one and delegating caregiving duties to professionals, and avoiding trying to do everything oneself. She shared these pieces of advice under the theme of “finding people to help you support your family!”

Seminar participants commented as follows (excerpts):

  • I learned how important it is to be aware of how I work and to consult with my workplace before deciding simply to leave work to care for a family member.
  • We never know when we’ll have to start caring for our parents. The seminar reinforced how important it is to create workplace environments that allow everyone to balance work and caregiving, including childrearing.
  • I couldn’t make it to the seminar, so I’m very glad that I could watch the video later.
