Polaris Student Exchange Public Lecture:“Toward the Realization of an Inclusive Society. Thinking from the Perspective of the Workplace of Persons with Disabilities”

On December 15, 2023, Waseda University Polaris, Inc., a special subsidiary of Waseda University (see note), invited five of its employees as guests and Associate Professor Hanno Terao of the School of Social Sciences (in charge of “Comparative Modern Social Thought 2”) as facilitator to hold the above open lecture online. A total of 70 students of Waseda University participated in the lecture.

A Polaris manager provided an overview explanation of the company’s business activities and showed an informative video about their work. Employees with disabilities discussed their work duties and engagements that enable them to use their aptitudes and abilities. They talked about their employment history and shared details about their daily lives and experiences. A lively question-and-answer discussion involving students attending the lecture followed. All in attendance had an excellent opportunity to consider ways of working with persons with disabilities to help build an inclusive society, and the content helped them see doing so as possible in their everyday lives.

(Note) Subsidiary established by the employer (the university) for the purpose of promoting stable employment of persons with disabilities
