The Child Care and Nursing Care Leave Law was amended in June 2021, and will be gradually enforced from April 1st, 2022. As a major change, “Postnatal Dad Childcare Leave” was created, which allows not only postpartum mothers but also their spouses to take leave immediately after the birth of their child. The leave can be taken for up to 4 weeks in total within 8 weeks after the birth of the child, and it can also be taken in two parts.
In addition, childcare leave can now be divided in blocks (previously, this was not possible). Furthermore, there are systems that make it easier for fixed-term employees to take childcare leave regardless of employment type or gender, such as easing the requirements for taking childcare / nursing care leave and making it mandatory to create an environment that makes it easier to take childcare leave.
Along with communicating the purpose of the revision law, we aim to create a work environment that makes it easier for those who need it to take childcare leave.
