On July 26, 2021, we invited Yumiko Uehara, a graduate of the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering who works at the Product Planning Department under the TV Business Division of Sony’s Home Entertainment & Sound Products Headquarters, and Associate Professor Akari Takayama as lecturers and held the 7th Rikoh Tea Time Symposium online (The symposium consisted of two parts: a Zoom Webinar and group sessions using Breakout Room). 53 participants attended the event, including not only Waseda undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff, but also students from affiliated schools and the neighboring Tokyo Metropolitan Toyama High School.
Compelling messages from the lecturers as role models in the sciences, such as, “By paying attention to your interests, the world will look completely different. This could open a new path for you,” and, “As you pave the way to your future at your own will, you can also move forward in an unexpected direction by expanding your skills, talking to the people you love, and improving your self-esteem,” struck a chord with everyone in the audience, and the participants were able to get hints on thinking about their own career choices.
