Open Lecture from the“Law and Society as it Relates to LGBT”, a course endowed by the WSC Members Fund

Based on the topic of “The Significance and Prospects of Local Government Partnership Ordinances,” this open lecture was conducted online on Nov. 17, 2020. Minori Tokieda, the Representative of RainbowTokyo Kita-ku, discussed the state of partnership systems, shared her experiences submitting appeals and petitions to local government, and explained why the proliferation of such partnerships is important. Naosuke Fujita, the Co-Representative of the Lawyers Network for LGBT & Allies, touched upon the  severe situation in Japan from his perspective as a lawyer, explaining that “even if you obtain a partnership certificate, you are not fundamentally given the legal guarantees of a married couple,” and emphasized the need for governments and the private sector to respond and make adjustments.
