We have invited Ms. Madoka Takai, who changed her career from an engineer of company to a researcher and faculty member of university, and Ms. Akiko Kusamoto, who changed her career from an engineer of company to a high school teacher, as guest speakers to have lectures followed by group discussions.

Reflecting on the hardships she faced at her first job hunting, Takai told attendees, “Don’t get caught up with what’s immediately in front of you; look ahead, and, above all else, enjoy yourself.” Commenting on the conflicts she experienced when changing careers, Kusamoto said, “It’s up to you to make decisions. You are advised to be bold and move forward.”

Voice of the participant

As a foreign female student, I learned deeply about the circumstances of women in science and technology who work in Japanese society. Though my career path may differ from the speakers, I hope to utilize what I learned today when I face similar obstacles in the future.
