Advocating Consideration for Persons Attending Events

In order for people who need various considerations to participate in the University’s events with peace of mind, Waseda is promoting a new school-wide policy of stating that special measures will be provided in notifications issued prior to events, and responding to consideration applications.

The Office for Promotion of Equality and Diversity provides support such as the introduction of interpreters when requests for sign language interpreters and PC character interpretation are received, and accepts consultation on how to respond to various applications. In addition, the office accepts consultations regarding securing and use of breastfeeding and childcare spaces.

Here are some of the voices of the participants (174 people) when sign language interpretation was introduced at the special screening of“Karankoe no Hana” and talk event hosted by the Student Diversity Center on June 21, 2019.

“I was very impressed with the thoughtful considerations such as the English interpreters, the sign language interpreters, and the facilitation provided by the moderators.”

“I thought the number of screenings and subtitles was wonderful.”

“I am thankful for the 3 screenings and the showing during the day. Also, I am very grateful that it was possible to attend accompanied by children.”
