WiDS Ambassador Meetup@Stanford University

On August 14, 2019, the Ambassador Meetup of WiDS (Women in Data Science) was held at Stanford University. WiDS Japan Ambassador Prof. ASAHI Toru (Faculty of Science and Engineering) and Director of the Office for Promotion of Equality and Diversity Prof. TOKORO Chiharu (Faculty of Science and Engineering) participated.

The director of the office, who had the opportunity to report on the status of diversity promotion at the University, is scheduled to become the WiDS Co-Ambassador from 2020. Meaningful talks were held at Stanford University with WiDS Co-Director Prof. Margot Gerritsen (Senior Associate Dean, School of Earth, Energy and Environmental Sciences), Ms. Karen Matthys (Executive Director, Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering) and Ms. Judy Logan (ICME), and the mission was accomplished.

Established at Stanford University in the United States in November 2015, WiDS is a global network that boasts over 200 members from 50 countries around the world. WiDS is tackling the urgent issue of developing female human resources who are active in various fields of data science, data engineering, and data business across academic fields and businesses. In February this year, WiDS Tokyo @ Waseda 2019 was held under co-sponsorship by the Nomura Research Institute and Waseda University (the Office for Promotion of Equality and Diversity, the Faculty of Science and Engineering, and the Doctoral Student Career Center) with the support of the Center for Data Science. Starting from what has been realized, the relationship with Waseda University has deepened.
