On November 7th, 2023, Waseda University was awarded the Gold Recognition in the PRIDE Index 2023 for the second year in a row. It's a recognition based on an evaluation of initiatives that support LGBTQ+ people in the workplace, formulated by the voluntary organization “work with Pride".

Since its founding, the University has opened its doors to a wide variety of people. Through Waseda Vision 150, an institutional initiative to mark the University’s 150th anniversary in 2032, we aim to rapidly improve the quality of education and research and continue to be a university that contributes to the world.

Especially in recent years, we have tackled a number of issues with the goal of realizing the further development of the promotion of diversity in education, research, and employment. As part of this effort to promote diversity, we applied for inclusion in the PRIDE Index.

We were awarded back-to-back “silver recognition” in 2020 and 2021, which led to us obtaining our first our first “gold recognition” in 2022, which was the same year we established personnel systems and policies that take into consideration our faculty and staff’s same-sex partners.

Following last year’s recognition, the PRIDE Index accreditation items and review points have been upgraded this year, and the accreditation standards have been substantially tightened and we have furthered our efforts in regards to the promotion of diversity, given. Consequently, during the “Work with Pride 2023″ conference held on Tuesday, November 7th, we obtained “gold recognition” for the second consecutive year.

We will continue to respect and promote diversity in order to build a fair work environment in which diverse people can work together, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
