Starting April 1, 2022, the University has extended its personnel division’s support systems regarding overseas/domestic relocation, childcare or nursing support, temporary leave/leave of absence, etc., that concern the spouse, children, and relatives of faculty and staff. The updated support systems will extend to include a faculty or staff’s partner*, partner’s children, and partner’s relatives.
*Definition of partner
A partner is recognized by the University as a person who is in a similar circumstance to that of a marriage with a faculty or staff regardless of their gender. Above-mentioned support systems that concerns the spouse of faculty or staff will be applicable to a partner.
The University, in line with its Waseda University Promotion of Diversity Declaration, is working towards creating an environment where all members of the University, their dignity and their diverse values and lifestyles being respected, can make the most of their individuality and abilities, regardless of sex, disability, sexual orientation and gender identity, nationality, ethnicity, creed, age, etc.
In recent years, in order to promote diversity in our education, research, and employment, we have been organizing seminars to deepen the understanding towards LGBTQ+ individuals. For example, we held seminars for faculty and staff on diversity and inclusion, and staff training on how to be an ally, and have been working towards creating a workplace environment that is comfortable for LGBTQ+ individuals.
We will continue to build an equal workplace environment where all individuals can work together regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
This new extension of our support system is a step forward in fulfilling the core strategies (12. Establishment of a Progressive University Structure and 13. A New Form of Academic Community Centered on Waseda) set out in Waseda Vision 150. The University hopes to continue progressing as a center of learning and to build a thriving and diversified community.
