On December 7, 2021, two lawyers, Yuka Tateishi, who is the auditor of the NPO Tokyo Rainbow Pride, and Tatsunari Ishibashi, who is a member of the “Lawyers for LGBT and Allies Network (LLAN)”, were invited as speakers to hold an online talk as noted on the above title, and 56 people from inside and outside the university participated.
First, Ms. Tateishi gave a basic explanation of what transgender is. Then Mr. Ishibashi took the (online) platform and gave a concrete explanation, based on the actual situation, of the “Act on Special Cases for Gender Treatment of Persons with Gender Identity Disorders (Special Provision)” enacted in 2003. At the end of the talks, the two of them took the platform together, introducing past judicial precedents and having a wide range of discussions on the problems of the current law and the current situation surrounding transgender. In the final Q&A session, a number of questions were asked that showed a strong interest in this theme. With a high level of enthusiasm, lively discussions took place together with Prof. Kyoko Ishida (Faculty of Law) who was a moderator of the event.
