To help students and faculty/staff members balance work and life at home, Waseda University has set up nursery centers for temporary child care on its campuses. Following the Waseda and Nishiwaseda campuses, a new nursery center opened at the Tokorozawa campus on April 2021. Except for when the gate of campus is closed, please feel free to use the nursery center even on weekends and holidays.
As a reliable option to have your child looked after
I usually take my child to daycare, but during the state of emergency declaration, I voluntarily refrained and had a babysitter or used the nursery center instead. There are times when I use the nursery center for consecutive days, but my child is in a good mood throughout because the nursery teachers keep my child happy, such as taking my child on a walk in the Okuma Garden on the first day and playing in water the next. Having a “facility where you can leave your child with peace of mind in case of trouble” on campus helps with pursuing my educational and research activities. I make great use of the nursey center as one of the reliable options to have my child looked after.

My spouse and I share family care and child care responsibilities. When we had online classes, I was able to take on these responsibilities while working from home, but I am really grateful that the long-awaited Tokorozawa campus nursery center opened when the number of in-person classes have started to increase.
