To kick off the 2024 academic year, the Global Education Center hosted the 11th Waseda University Writing Forum on April 10, 2024 at Building 3 of Waseda Campus. The annual forum offers the chance for our tutors of the Writing Center, shidoins (instructors) of the Academic Writing Program, and professors to share ideas on how to improve assisting writers across Waseda University.
For this year’s forum, we invited Dr. Wajima Yuichiro from the Center for the Studies of Higher Education, Nagoya University to give a lecture on “Universities and Generative AI – can education collaborate with ChatGPT?” More than 100 students and faculty members participated, demonstrating the high level of interest in this topic.
In the poster presentation that followed, tutors from the Writing Center and instructors of the Japanese academic writing class for undergraduate students presented six research posters in both Japanese and English. Many students and professors alike freely roamed the room, and there was an active exchange of opinions on how we can better teach and support writers.
