Prof. Tayfun E. Tezduyar awarded USACM’s John von Neumann Medal

Prof. Tayfun E. Tezduyar (James F. Barbour Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Rice University and Joint Appointment Professor, Waseda University) has been awarded the 2023 John von Neumann Medal of the U.S. Association for Computational Mechanics (USACM). The medal is given every two years to researchers who have made “outstanding, sustained contributions in the field of computational mechanics generally over periods representing substantial portions of their professional careers.” It is the highest award given by the USACM. This year’s award ceremony was held at the 17th U. S. National Congress on Computational Mechanics in Albuquerque, New Mexico, U.S.A.

Professor Tayfun E. Tezduyar (Rice University) has been a Joint Appointment Professor at Waseda  University since 2017, teaching classes and conducting research on computational fluid-structure interaction methods and applications in collaboration with Professor Kenji Takizawa, Leader of Multiscale Analysis, Modelling and Simulation Unit. The methods, which simulate fluid motion under various conditions, have been applied to computational analysis of aortic valves and blood flow in the body, NASA spacecraft parachutes, and the aerodynamic characteristics of automobiles and  tires.
