”The Best CFD Graphics Award” at the 36th Computational Fluid Dynamics Symposium

At the Computational Fluid Dynamics Symposium held by the Japan Society of Fluid Mechanics (December 14-16, 2022), videos produced by Professor Takizawa Lab members won first and second place in the “Best CFD Graphics Award”.
Zhaojing Xu (Department of Modern Mechanical Engineering) and Yang LIU (Department of Modern Mechanical Engineering), students of the TGU course of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, were involved in the production of the first and second place winning videos, respectively.

“The flow around a tire with an asymmetric tread pattern”

Mr. Ryutaro Kaneko, Mr. Tsuyoshi Kakegami, Mr. Zhaojing Xu

This video visualizes the flow around a tire with an asymmetric tread pattern and the flow in the grooves near the ground surface. The NSVGMG and ST-SI-TC-IGA methods are used. These methods make grid generation and fluid analysis even for other complex tread patterns.

The video shows a 2D flow past a circular cylinder at Reynolds number 100, calculated using the Carrier-Domain Method (CDM) for high-resolution computation of time-periodic long-wake flows.
