Short Bio
Yuko Kasuya’s research focuses on Comparative Politics, regime transitions, political institutions, and the politics of East and Southeast Asia, with a specialized interest in the Philippines. She is currently serving as the President of the International Political Science Association (IPSA) for the 2025–2027 term and is the founding director of the V-Dem East Asia Regional Center. She earned her Ph.D. in International Affairs from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), an M.A. in Development Studies from the Institute of Social Studies (Netherlands), and her B.A. in Law from Keio University. Her recent publications include the edited volume Decolonization and Regime Change in Asia (Springer, 2026) and the co-edited Routledge Handbook of Autocratization in Southeast Asia (2025). Her scholarly work has appeared in leading journals, including Asian Review, Electoral Studies, Journal of East Asian Studies, and Party Politics.
