Graduated from School of Political Science and Economics at Waseda University (BA), Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Tokyo (MA), and Department of Government at Cornell University (Ph.D.). Worked at the Embassy of Japan in Mexico in 1994-1996. Joined Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies at Kobe University as associate professor in 2006-2016, and Faculty of Political Science and Economics at Waseda University as associate professor as of April 2016. Visiting scholar at the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies at the University of California, San Diego (September 2021-August 2023).
