June 2025 Top 5! Seminar House,  Rabbit Meru-san, Job Hunting and Work - Selection by Waseda University Student Readers

Waseda Weekly publishes a variety of articles, including "Focus," which features various on-campus systems, facilities, events, and points to be aware of, "People," which introduces students who are active both on and off campus, as well as articles about Alumnus and Professor, alumni and student club active in various fields, and even stories of studying abroad and solutions to everyday problems.

We have also introduced a Waseda University student reader monitor system, where articles are rated weekly. Each article is rated from 1 to 5 stars, and we receive feedback, both positive and negative, which we use to create better articles. This time, we will introduce the articles published between June 1, 2025 and June 27, 2025, in order of highest reader monitor rating, along with actual comments!

1. < Focus > The Blissful Izukawana Seminar House:Famous Hot Springs, Spectacular Views, Seafood, and the Beauty of Ito (opening June 16, 2025)

I didn't know there was a facility like this at Waseda! I thought it could only be used for seminars or student club, but it seems like it can be used by individuals too, which is interesting. I'd like to take a little trip this summer, so I'm very grateful to be able to go to Izu or Chiba at a low price. I'm glad I found out about it before summer. (1st year School of Humanities and Social Sciences)

A night's stay in a resort area for around 2,000 yen is so cheap that it's appealing. I would definitely like to try out Seminar House that are common in tourist areas. (1st year School of Social Sciences)

2. < Professor's Time Off > Professor Hiroyuki Sasahara Shares How He Spends His Free Time With His Rabbit Meru-san (Released June 18, 2025)

I thought it was a wonderful idea to have a rabbit that has always lived indoors as a "stay-at-home senior." I feel like I got a glimpse of the rich imagination of Waseda's Faculty. (1st year student, School of Fundamental Science and Engineering)

So cute! I heard that rabbits like dried vegetables, so I was curious to know if they can taste sweetness. (1st year master's student Graduate School of Fundamental Science and Engineering)

3. < Focus > "What is it like to be a working adult?" Looking back at the reality of job hunting and work after 1-2 years of employment (Published June 2, 2025)

I found it interesting that he graduated from School of Commerce and went on to work for an IT-related company. I also liked the fact that his interest in IT was sparked by his experience working in WASEDASAI. It made me think that gaining a variety of experiences during university might be beneficial for the future. (2nd year School of Human Sciences)

I thought job hunting was a deep and difficult process, requiring self-analysis and thinking about your motivations for applying. However, when Naito-san said, "Job hunting is ultimately all about connections," I felt like my heavy feelings were lightened a little! This was a very helpful article written by a senior who has experienced job hunting! (1st year School of Law)

4. < Ebicha-Zone > Popular classes and gastronomy (Released June 11, 2025)

It gave me an opportunity to think about the meaning of spending time with other people. (4th year, School of Commerce)

The lectures were described as live, and considering that there were certainly many words that could only be heard in real time, it made me want to pay closer attention to the lectures, like a live music concert, without missing anything. (1st year student, School of Culture, Media and Society)

5. <Tell us! Waseda Debate> Speaking is not the only way to communicate: Ask Professor Sekine about non-verbal communication (Published June 4, 2024)

It was interesting to learn what kind of education and influence a child born in Japan receives to acquire Japanese-style expressions. (Third-year student, School of Culture, Media and Society)

I realized that gestures are actually very important, even though we do them unconsciously. I was surprised to hear that they're also used in freestyle rap! I think it's very human, and an interesting study, to see how facial expressions and movements can help convey things that words alone can't. (1st year Master's student Graduate School of Commerce)
