[Skiing Club] FIS Nordic Combined/Team World Cup – Ryota Yamamoto’s Team Ranks Third

Japan ranked third at the second FIS Nordic combined/team World Cup, held on January 25 in Oberstdorf, Germany.

In the ski jumping, held during the first half of the event, the Japanese team ranked third place. The team also ranked third during the cross country held in the second half. This is the first time that a Japanese team has stood on the winners’ podium since November 2018.

All Members are Current or Former Participants of Waseda University’s Skiing Club.

The four member team included Ryota Yamamoto (fourth year School of Sport Sciences student), Hideaki Nagai (graduated from School of Human Sciences 2006 and is currently affiliated with Gifu Hino Motor Co., Ltd.), Akito Watabe (graduated from the School of Sport Sciences in 2011 and is currently affiliated with Kitano Construction Corp.), and Yoshito Watabe (graduated from the School of Sport Sciences in 2014 and is currently affiliated with Kitano Construction Corp.)

Waseda Competes on the World Stage

Ryota Yamamoto who is captain of the skiing club and has competed with top skiers from around the world, commented; “Our club has a lot of senior members and I really feel that they have helped improve my own skills. There are a lot of athletes representing Waseda on the world stage, which really shows how great our university is. I’ll keep working hard to join them.”

The skiing club truly reveals the spirit of Waseda University on the world stage. Let’s keep cheering them on.
