Marriage Contracts under the Qajar Dynasty
Naofumi Abe (Asst. Prof., University of Tokyo) - Language
Japanese (without English interpreting) - Overview
When compared with family and women’s historical research into territories under Ottoman Empire rule, there has been little research using sharia court documents and other resources to investigate similar issues in Iran under the Qajar Dynasty. This presentation will give an overview of marriage agreements in Iran, and discuss the features of actual marriage documents, including issues of divorce and inheritance, focusing mainly on the 19th century. - Contact
