To all faculties and students who uses chemical substances
Since the laws and ordinances are updated within years and we introduce the newest version of “Chemical Registration Information System (CRIS)” last year, we request to follow the rules for management of chemical substances in Waseda especially for the topics below.
- Register chemical substances and high pressure gases on CRIS
The name, amount and location of chemicals registered in CRIS are important in the case of the emergency. Please (1) give information of storage room to the seller when you make an order, (2) update the storage room when you transfer chemicals to another room, and (3) return barcode labels to ESC when you finish to use the chemical.
- Reduce the amount of the hazardous substances designated by the Fire Services Act
The storage amount of the hazardous substances designated by the Fire Services Act are limited for each room by the law. Please check the amount of these substances for your rooms, and keep not to excess the limitation by reducing or transferring these substances. You can find the total amount of these substances and the limitation for your room on CRIS.
- Manage the poisonous or deleterious substances according to the laws
The Poisonous and Deleterious Substances Control Law request for prevention of theft or loss to take measures for the management of such substances below. (1) Store them in an appropriate storage with a lock and separate from the other chemicals, (2) indicate by attaching the designated labels “医薬用外毒物” or “医薬用外劇物” that this storage contains such substances, and (3) record use of these substances every time. You can record the use on CRIS in Waseda.
- Store chemicals safely even in the case of flood
There are possibility of flood at ground and basement floors even in our campus. To prevent outflow of chemicals, please (1) keep chemicals in robust containers such as a tin can or store in stabilized hard storage, and (2) store the water-reactive substances in a tightly sealed container.
If you have any question about management of chemicals or usage of CRIS, please contact ESC freely via e-mail ([email protected]).
