  • Title: “Japan-related operas and the spread of Japan-related cultural materials and information in Europe from the latter half of the 16th century to the latter half of the 19th century.”
  • Language: Japanese
  • Abstract:
Plays and operas on Japan in Europe began to be produced at the early 17th century, and began to be produced again from the latter half of the 19th century. The names of characters, place and Japanese musical scales were based on information and exports from Japan, exhibits at the international expositions and more. The supply source changed depending on situation in Europe and Japan and the relationship between Japan and Europe at that time.
My recent research topic is about Japan-related artifacts and collections overseas. Today, I will talk and show the records of Japan-related information and cultural items brought to Europe from the latter half of the 16th century onwards, as well as the dates and times of performances of Japan-related operas and plays.
