Since the 1960s when Waseda University first established its partnership in Europe, we have long worked together with our outstanding European partner institutions in the fields of education and research.

Today, Europe is more closely integrated than ever before. In pursuit of further development of our academic partnership with European institutions, we believe there is an increasing need to promote the cooperative tie not only between Japan and “a country in Europe” but also between Japan and “the whole of Europe”.

In that sense, Brussels, the center of European integration, plays a vital part in politics, economy and academic exchange.

Acknowledging the importance of the city’s role, we launched the Brussels Office in April 2016 within the campus of Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), our strategic partner in Europe, to extend and strengthen the academic network in Europe.

The Brussels Office will serve as a bridge between Waseda and European institutions. Through the Office, we are determined to more energetically develop the partnership, primarily focusing on international joint research.

Main Activities of Brussels Office

• Event organization for researchers
• Facilitation of contacts between researchers in Europe and at Waseda
• Intellectual and general support for public research funds from the EU.
• Networking with relevant institutions
• Welcome and provision of office space for Waseda researchers
