Following the Workshop Series 2022: “Challenge to new environmental science research by bio-DX using various advanced technologies”, Professors Haruko Takeyama (Professor at the School of Advanced Science and Engineering at Waseda University) and Jean-François Flot (Professor at the Department of Organic Biology at ULB) give us their impressions on the workshop. What they thought of it, what they appreciated, potential future collaborations and benefits for their research.
A quick reminder: this scientific workshop was undertaken in the framework of a Prof. Takeyama’s research based on the observation that, in the environment, harmony is maintained through a complex interplay of diverse factors. As environmental change becomes a global issue, it is important to have a vision that integrates new experimental science and data science, as well as a social science perspective, in order to understand the natural environment and how to utilize it.
In this workshop, participants deduced from scientific data how to understand, conserve and use not only agricultural soils but also various environments. Participants exchanged and discussed their research on big data analysis of multi-level environmental parameters (biological, physical and chemical) obtained using cutting-edge technologies. The aim was to share a vision of environmental conservation and use based on these research results. In particular, the workshop was a starting point for the creation of a global network of research areas in environmental and ecological bio-DX.
