As part of its international educational activities, the Multiscale Analysis, Modelling and Simulation Unit, in collaboration with the DAAD-Waseda University Partnership Programme, held an international workshop from August 10 to 12 , 2022, using the online conference system Webex, to promote exchange between German and Japanese researchers. Last year, this international workshop was held using the online conferencing system Webex. Last year, this workshop was held in an online format, but with the improvement of COVID-19 infection situation, it was held in a hybrid format combining face-to-face and online. The face-to-face meeting was attended by participants from Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf (Germany).
In this international workshop, we invited nine researchers from Japan and abroad who are conducting research on mathematical analysis of the fundamental equations of fluid dynamics to give lectures on their latest research results. All the lectures were very detailed and easy to understand, and many of them were useful for students in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences course to grasp the latest research trends. The hybrid format combining online and in-person sessions made the participants forget about the barriers of national borders and time zones, and there were many lively discussions. During the question-and-answer period, many people engaged in lively discussions, and many participants, including students of the Mathematical and Physical Sciences course, were able to deepen their knowledge of the world’s most advanced technologies.
The Multiscale Analysis, Modelling and Simulation Unit plans not only to continue its international expansion through hybrid-style international workshops like this one, but also to find new ways to conduct research and educational activities with an eye toward the after-COVID-29, and to create a more conducive learning environment for students in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences course.
