新型コロナウイルス感染症拡大に関する総額５億円の学生緊急支援について

早稲田大学は国内大学トップクラスの返済不要な給付型奨学金制度を設けて経済困窮学生への支援を行い、また、東日本大震災や熊本地震の被災学生支援など、災害発生時には本学独自の支援も行ってまいりました。

今般の新型コロナウイルス感染症拡大により、学費を負担する保護者等の家計急変や学生本人のアルバイト収入激減により経済的に困窮している学生が増えていることから、下記のとおり、緊急支援金、PC、WiFi機器貸し出し等のオンライン授業受講支援および既存の家計急変に対応するための経済支援型の緊急奨学金を含めた総額約5億円の緊急支援策を講じることといたしました。

１．新型コロナウイルス感染症拡大に伴う緊急支援金

対象：本学学生・生徒
高等学院（中学部含む）、本庄高等学院、芸術学校を含みます。

給付金額は１人あたり10万円の予定です。応募方法、給付時期等については準備を急いでおりますが、給付の仕組みが整い次第、学生・生徒に別途周知いたしますので、個別のお問い合わせはお待ちいただく様、お願いいたします。

２．オンライン授業受講に関する支援

経済的に困窮している学生に対してオンライン授業の受講に必要な機器（PC、WiFi機器等）の貸し出し等に関して、本学独自の支援を準備しております。

また、一般学生に対する通信機器の支援についても別途準備を進めております。

5月11日の授業開始に間に合うように、提供の準備が整った支援から、4月末より順次、学生に周知いたします。

３．既存の奨学金等の支援

上記以外にも、早大緊急奨学金、小野梓記念奨学金他、校友や篤志家による経済支援型奨学基金・資金など多数により、従来からある給付型の奨学金を迅速に活用することで、経済的に困窮している学生の支援となるべく、努力しております。なお、学費の延納につきましても学生個々の事情をふまえてできる限り配慮いたします。

今後も、必要に応じ、上記に加え、様々な支援策を検討・実施してまいります。

Student emergency assistance fund of 500 million yen in response to COVID-19

In response to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, Waseda University has decided on the following items to provide support for students who are facing financial difficulties to pay tuition or to sustain their lives, as well as to continue providing university education through online courses.

1. COVID-19 Student Emergency Assistance Fund

Totaling 500 million yen, the University has established the COVID-19 Student Emergency Assistance Fund for students at Waseda University, Waseda University Senior and Junior High Schools, Waseda University Honjo Senior High School and Waseda University Art and Architecture School. The COVID-19 Student Emergency Assistance Fund will grant each student approximately 100,000 yen. Though we are still discussing the details of how students can apply and when it will be offered, but as soon as everything is ready, we will notify students immediately. We ask that students kindly wait for our notification.

2. Study support for learning online

Also with the fund mentioned above, we are preparing to provide study support such as lending electronic devices to learn online (e.g. laptops and WiFi routers) for students who are facing financial difficulties. Also, we are currently considering to provide telecommunications equipment at an affordable price for all students in general. Starting from the end of April to before the start date of classes on May 11, we will be notifying students about these services and support in the order they are ready to be offered.

3. Existing financial assistance such as scholarships

Aside from the two items mentioned above, we would like to provide students facing financial hardships support through scholarships, such as the Waseda University Emergency Scholarship and the Azusa Ono Memorial Scholarship, and other types of financial assistance made possible by alumni and other supportive individuals. In addition, we will consider deferred payment of tuition as much as possible based on the circumstances of each student.

In addition to the items mentioned above, Waseda University will continue to consider and implement other types of support measures as necessary.
