\nSeparated by only a narrow stretch of water, the people of China and Japan have shared a bond of peace and friendship as the predominant theme for more than 2,000 years. The people of our two nations have continuously learned from each other, fostering mutual development and making significant contributions to the advancement of human civilization. Since the normalization of diplomatic relations, China and Japan have engaged in extensive cooperation and exchanges in a wide range of areas including economy, culture, science and technology, and education.
\nAs universities disseminate knowledge and culture, we play a unique role in reinforcing and deepening the bonds of friendship between China and Japan. As President of Peking University, I am keenly aware of the critical importance of our academic cooperation in fostering greater understanding between our countries. Meanwhile, as a new honorary doctorate holder from Waseda University, I am afforded the opportunity to gain a deeper appreciation of its academic and cultural milieu. Today, I wish to reflect briefly on the historical exchanges between our two institutions and envision the promising future of our collaboration.<\/p>\n

\u5317\u4eac\u5927\u5b66\u4e0e\u65e9\u7a3b\u7530\u5927\u5b66\u662f\u5404\u81ea\u56fd\u5bb6\u5177\u6709\u60a0\u4e45\u5386\u53f2\u3001\u58f0\u8a89\u5353\u8457\u7684\u5927\u5b66\uff0c\u4e24\u6821\u53cb\u8c0a\u6e90\u8fdc\u6d41\u957f\uff0c\u4e3a\u4e2d\u65e5\u4e24\u56fd\u6559\u80b2\u6587\u5316\u4ea4\u6d41\u505a\u51fa\u4e86\u4e0d\u53ef\u78e8\u706d\u7684\u8d21\u732e\u3002\u56de\u671b\u5386\u53f2\uff0c\u4e24\u6821\u7686\u662f\u672c\u56fd\u8fd1\u4ee3\u7ef4\u65b0\u53d8\u6cd5\u7684\u4ea7\u7269\uff0c\u63a8\u52a8\u4e86\u672c\u56fd\u6c42\u65b0\u77e5\u4e8e\u4e16\u754c\uff0c\u542f\u6c11\u667a\u4ee5\u94f8\u9b42\u30021905\u5e74\uff0c\u65e9\u7a3b\u7530\u5927\u5b66\u5728\u65e5\u672c\u7387\u5148\u5f00\u8bbe\u4e86\u6e05\u671d\u7559\u5b66\u751f\u90e8\uff0c\u4e3a\u4e2d\u56fd\u7559\u5b66\u751f\u63d0\u4f9b\u4e86\u5b9d\u8d35\u7684\u5b66\u4e60\u673a\u4f1a\u3002\u5f53\u65f6\uff0c\u5f88\u591a\u4e2d\u56fd\u65b0\u6587\u5316\u8fd0\u52a8\u7684\u5021\u5bfc\u8005\u548c\u5171\u4ea7\u4e3b\u4e49\u8fd0\u52a8\u7684\u5148\u9a71\uff0c\u6bd4\u5982\u9648\u72ec\u79c0\u3001\u674e\u5927\u948a\u7b49\u90fd\u66fe\u7559\u5b66\u65e5\u672c\uff0c\u5c31\u8bfb\u4e8e\u65e9\u7a3b\u7530\u5927\u5b66\u3002\u5728\u4e94\u56db\u8fd0\u52a8\u671f\u95f4\uff0c\u5317\u5927\u5e08\u751f\u4ea6\u66fe\u7ec4\u7ec7\u8bbf\u65e5\u56e2\u524d\u5f80\u65e5\u672c\uff0c\u4e0e\u65e9\u5927\u5e08\u751f\u8fdb\u884c\u6df1\u5165\u4ea4\u6d41\u4e92\u52a8\u3002
\nPeking University and Waseda University, both prestigeous institutions with illustrious histories in their respective countries, have long enjoyed a profound friendship, contributing significantly to the educational and cultural exchanges between our two countries. Reflecting on our history, both universities emerged as results of modern reform movements in their respective countries, driving the pursuit of new knowledge globally and enlightening their citizens. In 1905, Waseda University became the first institution in Japan to establish a department for Chinese students from the Qing Dynasty, offering them invaluable learning opportunities. Many leading figures of the Chinese New Culture Movement and pioneers of the Communist Movement, such as Chen Duxiu and Li Dazhao, studied in Japan and studied at Waseda University. During the May Fourth Movement, a delegation consisting of PKU faculty and students visited Japan, engaging in meaningful exchanges with their counterparts at Waseda.<\/p>\n

\u4e2d\u56fd\u6539\u9769\u5f00\u653e\u540e\uff0c\u5317\u4eac\u5927\u5b66\u4e0e\u65e9\u7a3b\u7530\u5927\u5b66\u7684\u5173\u7cfb\u8fdb\u5165\u4e86\u65b0\u7684\u9636\u6bb5\u3002\u81ea1982\u5e74\u7b7e\u7f72\u5b66\u672f\u4ea4\u6d41\u534f\u8bae\u4ee5\u6765\uff0c\u4e24\u6821\u5728\u591a\u4e2a\u9886\u57df\u5e7f\u6cdb\u5f00\u5c55\u4ea4\u6d41\u5408\u4f5c\uff0c\u6bd4\u5982\u53cc\u65b9\u4e92\u76f8\u5728\u5bf9\u65b9\u6821\u56ed\u4e3e\u884c\u4e86\u201c\u5927\u5b66\u65e5\u201d\uff0c\u521b\u5efa\u4e86\u5317\u5927-\u65e9\u5927\u53cc\u5b66\u4f4d\u9879\u76ee\uff0c\u5171\u5efa\u5b54\u5b50\u5b66\u9662\u7b49\u3002\u8fd1\u5e74\u6765\uff0c\u4e24\u6821\u4f9d\u6258\u201c\u4e9a\u6d32\u6821\u56ed\u201d\u201c\u4e2d\u65e5\u5927\u5b66\u751f\u5343\u4eba\u4ea4\u6d41\u5927\u4f1a\u201d\u7b49\u9879\u76ee\u5e73\u53f0\u5f00\u5c55\u66f4\u591a\u5408\u4f5c\u3002\u8fd9\u4e9b\u5b9e\u4f8b\u5145\u5206\u8868\u660e\u65e9\u5927\u662f\u5317\u5927\u5728\u65e5\u672c\u975e\u5e38\u91cd\u8981\u7684\u5927\u5b66\u5408\u4f5c\u4f19\u4f34\uff0c\u6211\u4eec\u59cb\u7ec8\u73cd\u89c6\u8fd9\u4e00\u5173\u7cfb\uff0c\u5e76\u4e14\u5e0c\u671b\u5728\u5df2\u6709\u57fa\u7840\u4e0a\u8fdb\u4e00\u6b65\u5de9\u56fa\u548c\u63d0\u5347\u53cc\u65b9\u7684\u5408\u4f5c\u3002
\nSince the inception of China\u2019s Reform and Opening-up policy, the relations between Peking University and Waseda University have entered a new age. Following the signing of an academic exchange agreement in 1982, our two institutions have developed extensive exchanges and cooperation in various fields. Initiatives such as holding \u201cUniversity Day\u201d on each other\u2019s campus, establishing the PKU\u2013Waseda Double Degree Program, and jointly founding a Confucius Institute have further strengthened our ties. In recent years, we have expanded our collaboration through platforms such as the \u201cCAMPUS Asia\u201d initiative and the \u201cChina\u2013Japan 1,000 Student Exchange Program.\u201d These examples amply demonstrate that Waseda University is a vital partner for Peking University in Japan and that we have always cherished this relationship and will continue to reinforce this valued partnership upon its existing foundation and elevate it to a new level.<\/p>\n

\u9752\u5e74\u4ee3\u8868\u7740\u56fd\u5bb6\u4e0e\u4e16\u754c\u7684\u672a\u6765\uff0c\u627f\u8f7d\u7740\u5e0c\u671b\u548c\u68a6\u60f3\u3002\u5317\u5927\u4e0e\u65e9\u5927\u7684\u5b66\u751f\u4eec\uff0c\u4ed6\u4eec\u671d\u6c14\u84ec\u52c3\u3001\u6ee1\u6000\u7406\u60f3\uff0c\u52c7\u4e8e\u62c5\u5f53\u3001\u8ffd\u6c42\u5353\u8d8a\uff0c\u7ec8\u5c06\u6210\u4e3a\u4e24\u56fd\u672a\u6765\u7684\u5f15\u9886\u8005\u3002\u6211\u975e\u5e38\u8d5e\u540c\u7530\u4e2d\u6821\u957f\u5728\u65e9\u7a3b\u7530\u5927\u5b66\u5f00\u5b66\u5178\u793c\u4e0a\u5bf9\u540c\u5b66\u63d0\u51fa\u7684\u8981\u6c42\uff0c\u201c\u8981\u6709\u575a\u97e7\u7684\u667a\u6167\u3001\u6e29\u67d4\u7684\u611f\u6027\u548c\u5171\u9e23\u7684\u7406\u6027\u201d\u3002\u5e0c\u671b\u5927\u5bb6\u5728\u81ea\u5df1\u6240\u70ed\u7231\u7684\u9886\u57df\u575a\u6301\u4e0d\u61c8\uff0c\u7efd\u653e\u51fa\u81ea\u5df1\u7684\u72ec\u7279\u5149\u5f69\u3002\u540c\u65f6\uff0c\u4e24\u6821\u9752\u5e74\u8981\u79ef\u6781\u4e86\u89e3\u548c\u5b66\u4e60\u5f7c\u6b64\u7684\u6587\u5316\uff0c\u901a\u8fc7\u4ea4\u6d41\u5408\u4f5c\u5b9e\u73b0\u5171\u540c\u8fdb\u6b65\u3002\u5e0c\u671b\u4e24\u6821\u9752\u5e74\u643a\u624b\u5408\u4f5c\u3001\u5171\u540c\u5e94\u5bf9\u5168\u4eba\u7c7b\u6240\u9762\u4e34\u7684\u65b0\u6311\u6218\uff0c\u5171\u521b\u7f8e\u597d\u672a\u6765\u3002
\nThe youth of today are the future for our nations and the world, embodying hope and dreams. The students of Peking University and Waseda University are vibrant, idealistic, courageous, and committed to excellence. They are destined to become the future leaders of our two countries. I fully endorse President Tanaka\u2019s asking of the students at the convocation of Waseda University: \u201cStrive for resilient wisdom, gentle sensitivity, and resonant rationality.\u201d I encourage you to persevere in your chosen fields with passion, illuminating the world with your unique brilliance. Additionally, I urge the young people of both universities to actively engage in learning and appreciating each other\u2019s cultures, achieving shared progress through exchange and cooperation. I hope that the youth of our two universities will join hands to address the new challenges facing humanity and together create a brighter future.<\/p>\n

Profile<\/h2>\n

Mr. Gong Qihuang was born in Putian City, Fujian Province, China, in 1964. He received his B.S. degree from the Department of Physics at Peking University in 1983 and obtained his Ph.D. degree in Physics in 1989. He began his teaching career at Peking University in 1991, was appointed as Cheung Kong Professor of Physics in 1998, and Boya Chair Professor at Peking University in 2016. He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2013 and fellow of the World Academy of Sciences in 2018. From 2017 to 2019, he served as Vice President of Peking University. Since 2018, he successively served as Provost and Executive Vice President of Peking University, and has been serving concurrently as the Dean of Graduate School. In June 2022, he assumed the position of President of Peking University.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
