In collaboration with the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology\u2019s<\/a> Network System Research Institute<\/a> and Hitatchi Kokusai Electric Inc.,<\/a> Professor Tetsuya Kawanishi<\/a> from the Department of Electronic and Physical Systems of the School of Fundamental Science and Engineering succeeded in developing a 100-GHz fiber-fed optical-to-radio converter for radio and power over fiber transmission. A zero-bias operational high-speed photodetector (3dB-bandwidth>100GHz) could be applied to this converter to simultaneously generate radio and power, meaning, high data rate photonic wireless transmission based on photonic power supply without external electric power supply is possible. This research is expected to make contributions for entering markets in the foreign object debris detection systems on runways and the high-speed communication systems for high-speed railways.<\/p>\n

This research is part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications\u2019 efforts <\/a>to develop research in expanding radio systems.<\/p>\n
