Thanks to her for everything. I also looked on the internet about Waseda.

Why did you choose Waseda University?

The Ministry of Religious Affairs (MORA) sponsors a program called “5000 Doctors.” This program provides scholarships to academics or human resources personnel to study abroad. Studying in Japan had been my dream, so I am happy that my dream finally came true with the scholarship I received from MORA.

How did you get information for your program?

Besides asking information from friends who were already studying at Waseda, I also found it on the internet.

Did you have any concerns before coming to Japan?

I was concerned about the language.

Did you have any difficulties getting started here?

The first time I arrived in Japan, I had difficulties communicating with Japanese people, but so far so good. When I need to buy something, I use the Japanese language digital dictionary, so having a smartphone is helpful. When you are looking for some address, train schedule, and so on, you can find them on the Google maps. I also have Japanese friends in my lab who always help me if I have any problems related to the Japanese language.

How is your life in Japan and at Waseda now?

It is very nice. Everyone respects each other. As a Muslim, I can pray (sholat) in the lab. I am glad to study here. I have presentations every week to report my progress. Sometimes it makes me nervous, but actually I get much feedback on the presentations. The feeling of a global university is very strong here. My supervisor often holds international workshops on multidisciplinary areas such as chemistry, physics, and engineering, which are attended by professors from the top universities from Europe, America and Asia. I think it is amazing. I am glad to participate in the workshops.

What do you do in your free time?

Sometimes, I go around Tokyo, meet with other Indonesian students, and do video-calls with my family in Indonesia. But, I mostly go to the lab to study.

How are the relationships with your supervisor and lab members?

My supervisor is very kind. He gives a lot of attention to improve my knowledge related to my research. When I have a presentation, he gives me interesting feedback. Sometimes, when I cannot find the solution on some problems, he doesn’t give me the solution directly, but he gives me some clues so that I can discover them by myself. My lab friends are also very kind. I often ask them about topics such as functional analysis.

What is your research about?

My major field of study is mathematics, especially regarding harmonic analysis and partial differential equations. During the three years of doctoral study at Waseda University, I plan to conduct some research on fluid dynamics, which is one of the most interesting fields in mathematical physics. It also gives a lot of important ideas to fluid mechanical engineering like the design of the fluid machine, solving environmental issues and so on. I also would like to study some qualitative properties of solutions to the NS equation by using the harmonic analysis and the Fourier analysis, as well as the free boundary value problem of the Navier Stokes equation in view of maximal regularity. I plan to create a new method to find the solutions of the NS and apply them to cases that are related to mechanical engineering.

What are your plans after you finish your degree?

Since I am a lecturer (civil servant) in a university in Indonesia, I will go back to my country when I finish the doctoral program. I will teach and share my experience and knowledge to my students and colleagues. I also plan to continue further research in Indonesia and do some collaborative research with Professor Shibata in the future, if it is possible.

Do you have any advice for prospective students?

in English

Hi everyone, especially lecturers under the Ministry religious Affairs (MORA). My name is Suma’inna, a math lecturer at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. I am now studying at Waseda University as a doctoral student supported by the MORA scholarship. I will come back to serve to my country. Studying abroad broadens our vision on knowledge, especially in a top university like Waseda because we can access resources easily. We do not only communicate with local residents, but also with people from different countries. We can also study from professors from various countries because international workshops and discussions are often held. If I can come here, so can you.

in Indonesia

Ganbatte!

Related Video

WHY WASEDA?
Created for prospective students overseas who are unfamiliar with Waseda University and Japan as a whole, aiming to share the attractive features of studying at Waseda University in Tokyo. Watch this video

Related Links

WHY WASEDA? in 13 languages

International Admissions Office

From Republic of Indonesia Name: Suma’inna Graduated from: Institut Technologi Bandung Affiliation: Dep […]

[81
342
post-45140","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-voice-en
["GET
