The 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games are just around the corner. Waseda University is excited that our athletes, both students and alumni, are participating in this global summer event.<\/p>\n

On July 22, the second send-off ceremony for three athletes on the national team was held at Okuma Auditorium. President Kamata gave words of encouragement to the athletes:<\/p>\n

“Congratulations on your selection for the national team. We look forward to seeing you do your best, from Waseda to the world. Through sports, I believe you will become an inspiration for young people and contribute to international exchange.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Lastly, students, faculty and staff sang Waseda’s unofficial anthem, “The Azure Sky,” led by Waseda Cheerleading Club’s President, Takamasa Suzuki (4th year, School of Education).<\/p>\n

\n“I am proud to be the first Olympian to have graduated from the School of International Liberal Studies. Even though the University does not have a women’s rugby team, Waseda accepted me, and I was able to practice every day. At the Olympic Games, I am eager to leave behind unexpected results. I am, of course, aiming for the gold medal.”<\/p>\n
