The diverse student body has contributed to Waseda&#8217;s unique academic environment and culture, prevalent on campus to this day. The University will continue to advance its understanding and respect for diversity as we incorporate new perspectives into education and research by achieving the goals of Waseda Vision 150 and preparing future leaders of tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>To bring us a step closer, Waseda University proudly opened the new<a href=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/diversity\/en\/\"> Office for Promotion of Equality and Diversity <\/a>on July 1, reorganizing and changing its name from the former Office for Promotion of Gender Equality.<\/p>\n<p>The Office for Promotion of Equality and Diversity will continue to promote gender equality here on campus in addition to embracing diversity as a whole by implementing policies to support sexual minorities and people with disabilities. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/inst\/diversity\/en\/about\/message\/\">A message from Director Tetsuya Yaguchi can be read here.<\/a><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_43560\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-43560\" src=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/top\/en\/assets\/uploads\/2016\/07\/201607yaguchi_eyecatch-610x458.jpg\" alt=\"Director Tetsuya Yaguchi\" width=\"610\" height=\"458\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/top\/en\/assets\/uploads\/2016\/07\/201607yaguchi_eyecatch-610x458.jpg 610w, https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/top\/en\/assets\/uploads\/2016\/07\/201607yaguchi_eyecatch-610x458-360x270.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Director Tetsuya Yaguchi<\/p><\/div>\n<p>To mark the beginning, the new office hosted an open lecture by Kazuhiro Terada, from the Embassy of Japan in Denmark, titled &#8220;How did Denmark become the happiest country in the world\u203b &#8211; The first country worldwide to accept same-sex unions&#8221; (\u203baccording to the 2016 UN World Happiness Report)on July 8.
