{"id":38723,"date":"2016-03-11T11:17:53","date_gmt":"2016-03-11T02:17:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/top\/en\/?p=38723"},"modified":"2016-03-11T11:22:18","modified_gmt":"2016-03-11T02:22:18","slug":"five-years-since-311","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/top\/en\/news\/38723","title":{"rendered":"Five years since 3\/11"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Five years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake caused unprecedented destruction and suffering on March 11, 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after the disaster, Waseda University established the Office for Aiding Reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake, which focuses its efforts on providing scholarships for students from affected areas, organizing volunteer and donation activities, and promoting research to support reconstruction efforts. Thanks to the Waseda Supporters Club, which donated approximately three hundred million yen (approximately 2.6 million USD) we have been able to carry out extensive support and reconstruction efforts. Some of our student volunteers were still in middle school when the disasters struck and now that they have become Waseda students tell us, \u201cI was young at the time and couldn\u2019t do anything.
