When Pandora’s box was opened and the terrible things inside it were let out into the world, there was only one thing left in the box. This was “hope.”

It took me two months of trial-and-error to figure out how to create works that incorporate these two themes. There were days when I would draw several images on a canvas only to later throw them away. I had not yet found a style for this project and realized that I would not be able to put my works out into the world without establishing my own style first. One week before the exhibition, I found my theme of using colors to provide depth to flat surfaces. In the work titled “spatial depth “G”,” I used green as a primary color to express the feeling of Christmas. Without much time left after that, I used a similar approach to create four other pieces.

When I thought about the two months of trial-and-error leading up to this exhibition, and the style I established at the end, I remembered the original theme of these works, “hope.” To me, the pieces that came from this project embody “hope.” With this in mind, I decided to name the art show “HOPE.”

About “Okuma Statue”
I enrolled in the Art and Architecture School in 2008 and am now a staff member.
