Approximately 1,000 students attended the event at the historic Okuma Auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/fcom\/soc\/en\">School of Commerce<\/a>, the event was part of an initiative by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association to foster interest in automobiles among the youth. The event also commemorated the tenth year since Waseda awarded Ghosn an honorary doctorate.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/fcom\/soc\/assets\/uploads\/2015\/11\/1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2586\" alt=\"1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/fcom\/soc\/assets\/uploads\/2015\/11\/1-610x914.jpg\" width=\"610\" height=\"914\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The event opened with a discussion on &#8216;ningenryoku,&#8217; which roughly translates to \u2018human potential\u2019 or \u2018human competence.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>In response to a question from a student on leadership, Ghosn said, \u201cNo one is perfect. A leader must constantly search for things to improve in his or her environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One student asked Ghosn, \u201cAs a CEO, do you show your true self? Or are you showing a character that you have created?\u201d in which Ghosn replied, \u201cEverything you see is real. No one can fake it for long. I believe your chances of success depend on your actions and how you approach your situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked about Japanese people\u2019s strengths, Ghosn said, \u201cJapanese people are capable of quickly adapting to their environment and refining things over a long and thorough process.\u201d When asked about their weaknesses, Ghosn said, \u201cStrengths are weaknesses and weaknesses are strengths. Japanese people are capable of adapting to their environment, but when a complex situation arises, there are few who are willing to take charge and lead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/fcom\/soc\/assets\/uploads\/2015\/11\/2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2587\" alt=\"2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/fcom\/soc\/assets\/uploads\/2015\/11\/2-610x406.jpg\" width=\"610\" height=\"406\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In his discussion with students, Ghosn passionately spoke about the importance of identifying and addressing problems.
