Works from Waseda University\u2019s very own calligrapher, Taigo Watanabe, are currently being featured along the \u201cshow window\u201d of Building 27. For approximately 30 years, Watanabe has provided nearly all of the calligraphy seen on signs at university events.<\/p>\n

From October 8 Waseda will host an exhibition featuring Watanabe\u2019s works titled \u201cThe flowers of calligraphy in bloom (tentative title)\u201d at the Waseda Gallery.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s quite interesting to create large works such as the ones featured along this show window. The work \u201c\u4e00\u6b69,\u201d which means \u2018one step,\u2019 was created after the Great East Japan Earthquake. The idea behind the work is to keep working towards recovery \u2018step by step.\u2019 These works are quite large but the exhibition at the Waseda Gallery will feature several small works and provide a different experience for visitors. Please stop by when you have the time!\u201d<\/p>\n

Taigo Watanabe
\nTaigo Watanabe was born in 1951 and grew up in Shimane Prefecture. In 1983, he won the \u201cMainichi Prize\u201d at the Mainichi Calligraphy Exhibition and became a freelance artist. The upcoming exhibition to be hosted at the Waseda Gallery from October 8 will be Watanabe\u2019s 22nd<\/sup> exhibition.
