First win in six seasons<\/h3>\n

Waseda’s baseball team came out on top at the 2015 Big 6 Tokyo Baseball League spring competition which held its last match on May 31. Waseda finished the competition with a near perfect record of ten wins to one loss and currently has the most overall victories alongside the rivaling Hosei University team.<\/p>\n

Victory parade<\/h4>\n

Following Waseda’s victory at the annual Waseda-Keio game, the oendan (cheer squad), baseball team, Waseda-Keio game committee, and local residents participated in a victory parade through Waseda’s shopping district with the cooperation of local police officers and residents. The procession of approximately 1,100 students marched from Meiji shrine to Waseda University along Meiji-dori, Nanmon-dori, and Okuma-dori to their destination at a stage in front of Building 10. The parade was met with cheers of joy and support along the way.<\/p>\n

Celebratory address<\/h4>\n

University President Kamata and Waseda baseball team manager Hiroshi Kawaguchi offered their congratulations on stage with the victorious baseball team. Team members told the audience they are now underway preparing for the 64th<\/sup> Japan National Collegiate Baseball Championship to be held June 8-14. The celebratory address closed with the team, oendan and fans singing the Waseda school anthem.<\/p>\n

Victorious at National Collegiate Baseball Championship<\/h3>\n

Waseda’s baseball club came out in top at the 64th<\/sup> Japan National Collegiate Baseball Championship following a 8-5 come-back victory against Ryutsu Keizai University. Thank you to everyone who showed their support.<\/p>\n

Ryutsu Keizai University’s star pitcher Nabata, known for his 155 kilometer fastball, held control for the majority of the game, but Waseda fought back with a series of powerful hits in the seventh inning. Hits from Eigoro Mogi and Kazunari Ishi led to a five point streak while pitchers Kazuya Ojima, Kazuya Yoshino, and Kotaro Otake controlled the opposing team’s batters. Ishi hit a two-run home run in the final inning, cementing victory for Waseda.<\/p>\n

Eigoro Mogi who achieved a record high batting average of .615 with eight safe hits out of thirteen was awarded MVP.<\/p>\n
