The exhibition is regarded very highly with participants ranging from children to individuals in their 90s.

“I have been participating in the exhibition since my first year of primary school so I am happy to receive this award. I started calligraphy in kindergarten. I enjoy getting better and better but it is thanks to my friends who participated with me, my passionate teachers, and support from my family and those around me that I have been able to make it this far.”

“礎” kanji written by Kana in her first year at Waseda

Through calligraphy, I came to understand that life is a never-ending learning process and chose life-long education as my specialization within the School of Education. It is said that teaching isn’t a one way process. Even during teaching exercises, there have been many instances where I learn something new from my student. I feel that growth comes from this two way process of teaching and being taught.

“I look up to everyone. My teachers, my classmates, and my juniors…I have respect for all people. The novelist Eiji Yoshikawa once said “我以外皆我師”(roughly translating to “Everyone is my teacher”).
