Dear our partners and friends,
I thank you very much on behalf of the Center for International Education staffs and other colleagues at Waseda University for the ongoing kind messages of support and warm sympathy we have been receiving.
After the earthquake on 11th of March, we have had some inquiries about safety in Tokyo and about classes at Waseda University.
Currently in Tokyo, there are some inconveniences in daily life because of planned reductions in train service and scheduled power cuts in some areas. However, offices, stores, schools, and other facilities are mostly operating as usual today, whilesome aftershocks are still expected.
In the meantime, I assume that you are aware of the situation of nuclear plant in Fukushima by the broadcast and internet. As far as what we know from the governemt agents disclosed at the press conference, the situation is under control. There is no evacuation order in Tokyo at this moment.
Waseda University is planning to start the new semester as scheduled, including the orientationfor the incoming exchange students next week. Up to date information about the situation at theschool is available in English at the schools web site: https://www.waseda.jp/top/en/index-e.html. Also, the notification about this earthquake and some information for the international students at Waseda University is showing on the website of the Center for International Education; http://www.waseda.jp/cie/index-e.html
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns or questions. Thank you very much again for your consistent friendship and encouragement.
With best regards,
Kazuo KURODA Dean, Center for International Education
