The Power Energy Professional Training Program (PEP Training Program) at Waseda University was selected to be supported by the WISE Program (Doctoral Program for World-leading Innovative & Smart Education), an initiative by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
The WISE Program aims to systematically collaborate with external partners such as overseas universities and private businesses, and develop five-year doctoral programs with world-class education and research capabilities. Out of the 54 proposals from 38 institutions nationwide, 15 proposals from 13 institutions were selected, Waseda University being the only private university among them.
The PEP Training Program is a five-year doctoral program which aims to produce professionals to lead various sectors in the creation of new industries by optimizing the energy-value chain, the core of Society 5.0. The Program is expected to be a pioneering model of postgraduate education reform that tackles challenges related to energy in science and engineering as well as in the social sciences, the two fields of research in which Waseda is internationally competitive.
