Alumnus takes home the gold in the Nordic combined World Cup

Alumnus Akito Watabe won the gold medal in the 19th Nordic combined World Cup held in Sapporo.

Watabe, who graduated from the School of Sport Sciences in 2011, came in fourth place at 134.5m in ski jumping. Then, he made a comeback in the second half of the competition, the 10km cross-country skiing. Totaling eight World Cup wins, this was his first since March 2015.

Watabe competed in the Turin, Vancouver and Sochi Winter Olympics and won the silver medal for the normal hill in Sochi. He hopes to stand on the podium in the upcoming Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics.
