The trees at the Waseda Campus wait for the arrival of winter as the autumn leaves turn red and gold. As beautiful as they are, they fall with a single blow from the cold wind. Pedestrians pass by and look at these autumn leaves, some feeling excited about the celebrations ahead, such as Christmas and New Years, while others feeling somewhat melancholy that another year is ending.

On the ground of the Waseda Campus lies a golden rug of ginko tree leaves, so soft that walking on them may remind some of their childhood, rolling in a pile of leaves or collecting them. Whether it’s reading a good book or chatting with friends with a cup of warm coffee in hand, students and visitors at Okuma Garden find their own spots and pass time in their own ways. The atmosphere is completely different on Soudaimon Street compared to the laidback summer. Bundled up with layers of warm clothes, students walk quickly towards campus.

Winter is just ahead, but hope you enjoy the autumn leaves, a gift from this season.
