Waseda University is open to everyone. It has no walls or gateposts.

In addition, the University became barrier free by losing steps in January 2015.

Aside from February during entrance exam season and at night, the main gate of Waseda campus is always open, welcoming anyone who wishes to take a step into campus. To protect students and staff from incidents and anyone suspicious, the University’s public safety staff is constantly on the look to create a safe environment. The Public Safety Office, equipped with AED and wheelchairs, is located next to the main gate of the Waseda campus.

We spoke with public safety staff, Mr. Sato.

“Sometimes, students rush into campus while we are closing the sliding gate. It’s dangerous, so we ask kindly that students come earlier if they need to enter campus after hours.

Also, cars pass through entryways constantly, so we make sure to secure the safety of pedestrians on the sidewalk.”

Waseda University’s public safety is committed and dedicated to providing a safe campus environment.
