Mikiko Hagiwara, Head Coach of Waseda University’s Women’s Basketball Team, elected as member of International Basketball Federation’s (FIBA) special task force.

On January 28, 2015, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) presented the members of the special task force that will be responsible for the organizational reform of the Japan Basketball Association (JBA). Among the members elected is head coach of Waseda University’s women’s basketball team, Mikiko Hagiwara. Mikiko Hagiwara graduated from the School of Letters, Arts, and Sciences II in 2005 and completed the master’s program at the Graduate School of Sport Sciences in 2014. The Japan Football Association’s (FBA) Supreme Advisor and Waseda University alumnus and Recipient of the Award for Distinguished Service to Sports, Saburo Kawabuchi, was elected as chairman.
Head Coach Mikiko Hagiwara was a team member of Japan’s national basketball team and competed in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. In 1997, she became the first Japanese national to join the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) in the United States and in 2004, participated in the Athens Olympics as a coach.Presently, she is also the head coach of the national team at the multi-sport event, Universiade.
