License authentication

The installed Office programs will automatically and routinely verify the license status every 30 days via the Internet.
Since it is normally done automatically, there is no need for the user to do any special operation. The verification result is not shown.

* If the user's eligibility expires after graduation, retirement, etc., you can not activate the license and you can not continue using Office 365.

When license authentication fails (reduced functionality mode)

If the computer goes offline for more than 30 days, Office enters reduced functionality mode.
If you launch an Office application in reduced functionality mode, a message appears saying the product’s license authentication has been revoked.
The message bar under the ribbon menu also says the product’s license authentication has been revoked.
In reduced functionality mode, you can open and view Office files but nearly all other functions are disabled.

Cannot download / install Office 365

In some instances, you may not be able to download or install Office 365 even though you can sign into the Office 365 portal. One possible reason is that the Office 365 download / install or uninstall has failed because files remain on your computer from a previous Office installation. Microsoft provides a tool (Easy Fix) that will completely uninstall Office if the normal uninstall process (uninstall from "Programs and Features") doesn’t fix the problem or if you cannot uninstall because Office does not appear on "Programs and Features".

See the following website about using the uninstall tool.

Uninstall Office 2016, Office 2013, or Office 365 from a PC(Microsoft)

Note: Be sure to save the uninstall tool on your computer before running it. The uninstall may fail if you run the tool directly.
