Wired LAN (DHCP) Connections

There are many places where you can access the on-campus network with your notebook computer using Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).

  • * DHCP: In order to access the network with such devices as your computer, they need to be assigned with an address on the network (an IP address).
  • * DHCP is a mechanism for automatically assigning IP addresses to networked computers from a server which manages IP addresses.

How to set up and make a connection

You do not need to apply for usage of DHCP connection, but you do need your Waseda-net ID and password for DHCP authentication.

1)Required hardware and software
  • Personal computer : Supported OS - Windows 8.1/10 and Mac OS X
  • Network card : 10/100/1000BASE-T Automatic recognition
  • LAN cable : A straight cable
  • Browser : Internet Explorer 11, Firefox 52.5(ESR) and later, Safari 5-7.
    *Support for 128-bit SSL is required.
2)Initial setup

  • Network (TCP/IP) setup
  • Proxy setup

3)Making a connection
(Every time, do)
  1. Connect with LAN cable
    Connect your computer to the data jack with a LAN cable. After a short time, an IP address is assigned automatically.
  2. Login
    When you start your Web browser, the login screen is displayed. Complete logging in using your user ID and password  (for more information, click here).

    * Your user ID is your Waseda Mail address, and your password is your MyWaseda password.

  3. Logout
    When you are finished, be sure to log out (for more information, click here).
[Note] If you have configured your personal computer to share files and folders over the network, disable this setting before making a connection. Otherwise, your files can be viewed and manipulated from other computers connected to the on-campus network.
