Update of the Video Content Format

In April 2012, we have changed over to using Microsoft Silverlight for on-demand courses and other video content. Previously, students needed to use Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer to take on-demand courses. However, following this update, they can now use Macs and other browsers as well.

  New version (Silverlight content) Old version (WMV content)
  • Content can be viewed on both Windows and Macs.
  • Multiple browsers are supported.
  • Silverlight is required.
  • Video content cannot be viewed on Macs.
  • Only Internet Explorer is supported.
Computer requirements for viewing the new on-demand course content
To view Silverlight content, Microsoft Silverlight must be installed.
For more details, refer to the "How to install Microsoft Silverlight" section below.

* Video content can be viewed in Google Chrome or other browsers, but we do not guarantee that it will work perfectly.
Software required Microsoft Silverlight 4 or later and Windows Media Player 9 or later
Internet connection At least a 512 Kbps broadband connection, such as ADSL, CATV or FTTH
* For e-school, a broadband connection with an effective speed of at least 1 Mbps, such as ADSL, CATV, or FTTH, is required.
How to install Microsoft Silverlight
Lecture content cannot be viewed unless Microsoft Silverlight (Ver. 4.0 or later) has been installed.
If necessary, install Microsoft Silverlight according to the following procedure:
  1. Visit the following website to download Microsoft Silverlight:
  2. Click "Download Now" in the middle of the screen.
  3. Complete the installation of Microsoft Silverlight according to the instructions displayed on the screen.
If you cannot view video content
If your computer meets the requirements and Silverlight is installed, but you are unable to view video content, contact us using either of the methods below:
You can ask the IT Center Help Desk for assistance by going to the 問合せ (Contact us) link, which is located in the upper right corner of the Course [email protected] screen. Inquiries by e-mail are accepted 24 hours a day, all year around.

New functions
Screen image Function
If you move the mouse cursor to the bottom of the window, functions such as play, pause, and fast-forward buttons appear.
You can also move through slides or control the volume using the buttons that appear here.
If you move the mouse cursor to the bottom of the window, thumbnails of the slides appear. You can jump to a particular slide by clicking on its thumbnail.
If you move the mouse cursor to the left of the window, a slide index appears. You can jump to a particular slide by clicking on the index.
However, the following functions are no longer available.
  • Notes function
    If you want to take notes, start Notepad or a similar application and use that.
  • Functions for changing how video is displayed
    You can no longer switch between slides and video on the screen. Also, the full-screen mode, which makes a slide or video fill the entire screen, is no longer available.
